Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how GRIT Runner ("GRIT", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the GRIT Runner mobile app, website, and related services.
Information We Collect
Account information
When you create or use an account, we may collect information such as your name, email address, authentication provider, user ID, and account settings.
Training and activity data
GRIT is a running coach app, so the service may collect and process running, fitness, and wellness data, including:
- Runs, workouts, routes, GPS coordinates, distance, duration, pace, cadence, splits, laps, elevation, and treadmill activity.
- Heart rate, heart rate zones, heart rate variability, sleep, recovery, readiness, and related training metrics when you choose to connect a supported wearable or health data source.
- Race goals, training plans, workout schedule, rescheduled sessions, perceived effort, notes, and coach interactions.
- Device and sensor metadata, such as wearable provider, connected devices, and sync status.
Some of this information may be considered sensitive depending on where you live. You control whether to connect third-party services and device health permissions.
Connected services
If you connect Garmin, Apple Health, Strava, or another supported service, GRIT may receive data from that service according to the permissions you approve. We do not receive your Garmin, Apple, or Strava password.
You can revoke connected-service permissions through the provider, through your device settings, or through GRIT where supported.
Payment and subscription information
If you purchase a subscription, payments are handled by app stores or payment providers such as RevenueCat. We may receive subscription status, entitlement, renewal, cancellation, and period-end information. We do not store your full payment card details.
Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we collect and store push tokens so we can send training reminders, coach insights, plan updates, streak alerts, and other app notifications you choose to receive.
App, device, and diagnostics data
We may collect device type, operating system, app version, logs, crash reports, performance data, feature usage, and analytics events. We use this information to keep the app reliable, understand how features are used, and improve the product.
We aim to avoid sending sensitive personal information, exact GPS routes, names, or email addresses in diagnostics and analytics logs.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide the GRIT Runner app and core training features.
- Save and display your runs, routes, plans, zones, and history.
- Generate coach insights, debriefs, plan adjustments, and training summaries.
- Sync activities and workouts with connected services you authorize.
- Send notifications you request or enable.
- Process subscriptions and enforce paid features.
- Debug, secure, monitor, and improve the app.
- Detect abuse, protect accounts, and comply with legal obligations.
AI Coach Processing
GRIT may use AI systems to generate training insights, debriefs, summaries, and plan suggestions. To do this, we may send relevant training context, such as run metrics, route-derived signals, recent history, plan context, data quality signals, and user preferences, to an AI provider.
We use AI providers as service providers for GRIT. We require them to process submitted information only to provide services to us, maintain safety and security, comply with law, and enforce their service terms. We do not authorize AI providers to use your personal training, health, location, or coach-chat data for advertising or to build profiles about you for their own purposes.
We do not intentionally send unnecessary account identifiers to the AI provider. When possible, we minimize or exclude direct identifiers such as your name and email address before sending training context. AI providers may retain submitted prompts, context, and outputs for limited periods for abuse monitoring, security, debugging, or legal compliance according to their service terms.
We do not use your personal training data to train GRIT-owned AI models unless we first provide additional notice or ask for any consent required by law. If you do not want training context processed by AI providers, do not use coach chat, AI debriefs, AI plan generation, or similar AI-backed features, and contact us if you need help limiting or deleting prior AI coaching data.
AI outputs are coaching suggestions and are not medical advice.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal training data.
We may share information with:
- Service providers that help us run the app, including hosting, database, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, subscription management, and AI processing providers.
- Connected services, such as Garmin, Apple Health, or Strava, when you authorize syncing or sharing.
- Legal, safety, or compliance recipients when required by law or necessary to protect users, the app, or others.
- A successor organization if GRIT is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets.
Health, Fitness, and Location Data
GRIT uses health, fitness, and location data only to provide running, training, coach, route, and plan features. We do not use this data for advertising.
Apple Health and HealthKit data are used only for health, fitness, recovery, training, and coaching features you enable. We do not use Apple Health or HealthKit data for advertising, marketing, data mining, or building advertising profiles, and we do not sell this data.
We do not disclose Apple Health or HealthKit data to third parties unless you direct us to share it, the disclosure is necessary to provide a feature you request, or we are required to do so by law. Service providers that process this data for GRIT must use it only to provide services to us and not for their own advertising or data-broker purposes.
Exact route and GPS data can reveal sensitive places such as your home, work, or regular running locations. Be careful when sharing run cards, route images, or activity exports publicly.
Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your training history, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the service.
If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information unless we need to retain it for legal, security, fraud-prevention, payment, or backup purposes.
Your Choices and Controls
You may be able to:
- Update account settings in the app.
- Disconnect Garmin, Apple Health, Strava, or other connected services.
- Change Apple Health permissions in iOS Settings or the Health app.
- Disable push notifications in device settings.
- Choose whether to share runs to third-party services where supported.
- Request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal information.
Some rights depend on your location and applicable law.
Regional Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. These may include the right to request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, portability, restriction or objection to certain processing, withdrawal of consent, and information about how we process and share personal information.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another region with similar laws, our legal bases may include providing the Service to you, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and improving GRIT, compliance with legal obligations, and protection of users and the Service.
If you are in a US state with consumer privacy laws, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, receive a portable copy of, or opt out of certain uses or disclosures of personal information. We do not sell personal training data, and we do not use health, fitness, or precise location data for advertising.
You may make a privacy request by contacting privacy@gritrunner.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. Where applicable, you may use an authorized agent or appeal our response by replying to our decision notice.
If you believe we have not resolved your concern, you may have the right to contact your local data protection authority or privacy regulator.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including access controls, encrypted transport, row-level access controls where applicable, and restricted handling of provider tokens.
No system is perfectly secure. You should use a strong password, protect your device, and keep your account credentials private.
Children
GRIT is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old, or the higher age of majority where local law requires it, to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone who is not old enough to use the Service.
International Processing
Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have different data protection laws.
